Harlem Renaissance Shirt
The Black contribution towards zines is often erased from zine history in favor of white narratives. You might have heard that zines began in the 1930s with sci-fi fanzines, or maybe you thought they started within the riot grrrl punk scene on the 90s. The truth is that zine-like publications were being independently printed as early as 1917 during the Harlem Renaissance.
